Winter Knitting

January is a cozy time for winter crafts. Quilting, crochet, embroidery, sewing, or knitting are all needle crafts that are easy to pick up and work on during the long, winter evenings. I learned to knit a year ago on New Year's Day. We were spending time with family friends, and Christy, the twenty-year-old young woman who was dating our friend's son was busy knitting scarves. Although I had attemped to learn knitting in my youth, I'd given up in a frustrated tangle of threads and knots! But Christy made it look so easy and soon had me knitting to my hearts content. So, on New Year's Day this year, I set out my knitting basket and have been working on a quirky scarf. The yarn actually consists of three different threads with long tassles of gold, black, brown, and cream attached. The knitted result is a scarf with tassles of color giving it a loose, tangled appearance all over. It will look nice with my black velveteen jacket and the process will be relaxing on these days of early sunsets. Posted by Picasa

  1. How cute. I have yet to work with any of that "fun" yarn that is so popular. It seems to work up so cute. Knitting is one of my favorite passtimes. But I still need to finish my second pair of socks before I try something new : )
