Summer Heat and Sweet Fragrance

If you are reading this, you are probably a blogger, so will understand how frustrating it can be when you cannot blog! Our Internet service has been sporadic, at most, for the past week. Computer usage has been limited to things that don't require the Internet. Late this afternoon the problem seems to have been corrected. Maybe, just maybe, blogging can continue as normal. One can always hope!

Our weather has been very hot, and this year's lavender is done with it's first bloom. Most of the lavender stalks have been cut and dried on large sheets on the floor of the living room. The house has smelled tranquil and soothing. I've been relaxing by rubbing dried lavender stems over a large screen that's set on a Rubbermaid bin so that the lavender bud falls off and through the mesh of the screen and into the tub. I've mixed all varieties this year to make a blend that's beautiful in shades of purple, lavender, pink, and white. It still requires one more screening through a smaller mesh, but the lavender bud will keep indefinitely at this point. Some people say that lavender simply improves with age, the fragrance becoming more pronounced with time.

Most of the lavender has been trimmed into pretty little mounds. After the weather cools some most of the will bloom again for one last, although smaller, hurrah before snow flies!

  1. I thought I'd tell you, when I've had trouble posting pictures at times, they said on the Blogger help area to "clean the cache".

I think on Firefox it was located under Tools and Options.

    It worked every time.

I don't know if that will help.

Christopher explained to me why that works but I forget. :)

  2. I can almost smell that lavender through the blogwaves!
DH and I are thinking of things we should plant on our 56 acres when he retires next year and I'm thinking lavender would be heavenly! Wonder how good it would grow in GA?
Have a blessed day and I'm so glad your internet thing has seemed to work out - frustrating when you want something to work but doesn't but how refreshing it is when it comes back around.

Hi, I'm new to your blog (just yesterday, from Brenda's) and I LOVE it.
I am having trouble with adrenal fatigue lately so I'm spending alot of time either laying or sitting down. I spent several hours last night reading your past posts-I got all the way to February when I decided it was time to go to bed. I really enjoyed them.
I love lavender. I have 4 small plants in containers-no wonder they've never grown. Someday I'll put them in the ground.
I also love the pictures you post-they help me feel peaceful and with my fatigue it's so easy to feel discouraged and tired of life. I wish we had a cabin in the mountains to "run away" to. Yours looks very inviting.
I live in northern Ca. and homeschool 5 children, ages 8 to 14. I just wanted to introduce myself because your blog is a place I plan to visit daily. I just love it.
    Blessings.
    Joanna :)

  5. Oh, thanks to my imagination, I could almost smell your lavender when I read your post!

I still need to make my first lavender bottles with the help of the little tutorial you posted the other day. It's such a wonderful idea!

    Best wishes, Anita
