Lady Slippers

Lovely little lady slippers are a wild orchid that is hard to find and delightful to behold. Yesterday, in the woods near our cabin door, I discovered a shady area with nearly 30 of them blooming beautifully. The grow directly out of the ground, with no leaves or folage. Small, and easy to miss, they are a treasure to find. I've spent an hour this morning, searching online to find photos and information about this specific variety of lady slipper, but with no avail. My mother used to search for these little slippers each spring. Considered somewhat rare, we always were careful not to disturb them, nor even pick them. I'm excited that there is such a safe haven for them so near to my cabin door. And, I will continue to search for information. . .
