A Violet Kind of Day

The first of my violets are blooming in my flower beds. They are so pretty and sweet. I need to pick a little bouquet and place them in a vase in the house so I can enjoy them even more, but I always have such a hard time picking flowers from my garden. I enjoy them so much there as well. When I think of violets I think of stories from the Anne of Green Gables series, my mother and how she loved things with violets on them --- teacups, tiny vases, and prints. And they make me think of sugared violets, the new violet scented tea I purchased this week, and of my friend Gwen. It's when the violets bloom that my friend, Nancy, has her birthday (Happy Birthday, dear friend!). This is the time when nights are still chilly, but days are warm and bright. Last night our temperatures were down in the 20's. The orchardist next door had huge wind machines whirring from 11:00 pm last night until 8:00 am this morning. It was a little hard to fall asleep with all the noise, but sleep did come well and restfully after a time. The morning air in our neighborhood was black with smoke from smudge pots, but once extinguished, the day has been clear and bright. So, here's wishing you, dear reader, a violets kind of day!

"I expect to pass through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, as I shall not pass this way again."

William Penn
