Icy Waters

The ponds are usually filled with waterfowl who enjoy the shelter of the wildlife refuge and the abundance of food. Canadian geese, white pelicans, and a variety of ducks live at the refuge --- some full-time and some while migrating. But right now the ponds are completely frozen over. There's not place for the waterfowl, so they've moved to the nearby river where water is flowing. It seems so quiet at the refuge without the waterfowl. An abundance of small birds still can be seen and heard in at the pond's edge.
