Recipe for Pretty Bows

Do you remember the beautiful fabric bows that were popular several years back? They were made out of cotton fabrics and were frequently placed on baskets or wreaths. Sometimes commercial products were used to stiffen bows like this, but homemade recipes work just as well. Today I found my recipe for stiffened bows. I believe this recipe was probably originally given by Carol Duvall on the Home Show about 15 years ago (where has the time flown?).

Recipe for Fabric Stiffener

4 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
Hot water
Cold water
1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar

Mix together flour and hot water until smooth and paste-like. Dissolve sugar in cold water. Add sugar mixture to flour mixture and stir well. Dip or paint fabric bows in mixture and then place in a safe place to dry. Paper cups, clothespins, and other objects can be used to hold bow-ears open until fabric is dry.

Enjoy!
