I am so glad she was a cooking mentor to me through her PBS shows. Especially the idea that if it doesn't turn out exactly like you thought it would, turn it into something else and serve it, anyway.
I have done that a few times. Usually the dish tastes the same even if it looks different. Like the time I forgot to put the milk in the quiche and it turned into a pancake of sorts. ;)
