Cobalt Teacup

I have an affinity for cobalt blue. No matter how many times I decide to change my home decor, I find that I always have to save a spot for the cobalt pieces. It is especially endearing to me in pottery and china. So, I was delighted to receive this interesting and unusual teacup and saucer from a friend. She found it when on a cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and thought I would enjoy it. It's not especially dainty, but the design and glaze are beautiful. And it's really fun to be able to say that I have a teacup and saucer from Mexico. A scalloped edge frames its rim and four pedestal legs form a lovely base. The teacup's handle is gracefully scalloped. Hand-painted, each floral pattern is varied from the next as one looks around the teacup. I enjoy this teacup and display it on my bookshelf. I never look at it without remembering the friend who gave it to me.

Do you have special teacups that remind you of a friend? Or maybe an important event in your life? Do you collect them from different countries or states? I'd love to hear about your collection. Does anyone have a teacup from Hawaii? Or Alaska? Please share about your favorite or most unusual teacups. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

  1. I LOVE this tea cup!! I always enjoy seeing your beautiful dishes! I must confess, I read your blog often - and always enjoy it - just don't take time to comment! I'll try to be better!

Yes, I do have an eclectic collection of tea cups. Most are found at flea markets and garage sales - most often the only one salvaged from grandma's set of dishes - wish I could hear the stories! Some of my favorite are ones that my daughters find for me to add to my collection. Here are two of those http://lineshack-rusticmansion.blogspot.com/2011/12/day-78-of-365.html.

So glad that you joined in on my giveaway! I'll draw today on Flag day!

    Blessings

  2. I love that teacup. If I get to go to Mexico again I'll have to bring one home with me! If you come this way sometime I'll take you on a tour of my dear, little mother's home - she collects and declared with cobalt blue.

  4. Teacups are what I usually buy as keepsakes from trips I take. I have several that I brought back from the palaces and castles of England and Scotland. The teacup you were gifted with from your friend is lovely.

  5. You know I collect teacups! I love them and they are just all so interesting. You new addition is lovely. I have so many that have been given to me as gifts. I don't have one from Hawaii or Alaska.
One of my favorites is a very dainty Haviland one I found in a shoppe in Yakima. I was born in Yakima in December and this teacup has a very soft holly pattern on it...perfect.
My grandmother had a cup and saucer collection when I was growing up. I thought it was kind of old ladyish. Boy, would she laugh at me if she could see what I collect now!
    Have a good weekend.
    Love,
    Linda

  6. Hello La Tea Dah...I love your cobalt teacup. I was never a fan of blue anything, but now, in my "older" age, I love cobalt blue. Have some pieces right now in my kitchen window.

I have a teacup collection. I'm most fond of florals, pinks primarily, but if another color and pattern shows up and I like it, I'll buy it. Well, not now. My rack is filled to the brim. ha hahah

    Take care. Susan

  7. Yikes! I read your post this morning at 7 am and then I got busy and now it is almost 9 p.m. :/ I have a thing for blue and white and love that teacup. My Mammaw used to collect miniature teacups and saucers from different states. She had recessed built-in shelves where she displayed them. I wonder who got them all after she passed away? Hope all is well with you. I'll be away for a few days and then MAYBE I can get back on track with blogging. It's been a crazy 2 months. Best wishes, Tammy

  8. I have a teacup that looks very similar to this one. I bought it in Honduras when I was there on a business trip a few years ago.

  9. A very handsome set, and like you, I love that your friend thought of you when she found this on her travels! I have a boxed set of two pink teacups and saucers that a friend got for me in the Czech Republic. They are very pretty, and I of course enjoy using them, but I truly *love* the fact that she laughed and said this was one of the first things she bought on the trip and she had to lug that boxed set all over the place. Now that's a friend for you!
