Winter Walks

The park is closed during the winter months. Maybe that is the reason our family uses the park more in the winter than during the summer! Although it is gated and closed, locals use it for their daily walks. Dogs and humans frequent the loopy trails, enjoying the quiet, wide-open spaces. Bald eagles, hawks, and large owls appear to be spending the winter in the park, and sit high in the trees where they can oversee their world. Occasionally the hoot of an owl can be heard. I admit to keeping an eye out for my dog when we walk near the hawks and eagles! Chilly air requires one to bundle up in a heavy jacket, gloves, and a scarf. But the brisk air and a quick walk get the circulation working well. When warmer weather arrives, we'll be back to walking the track at the high school. But, for the winter months, the park trails are inviting and so very pleasant. I love the reflections of sky on the river and the bare-bones branches of the tall trees at river's edge. Catching every bit of sunshine available is an added plus!

Do you have a favorite place you like to walk in the wintertime? What are some of the interesting things you see as you exercise?

  1. The cemetery still is my favorite for walking. There are no sidewalks and so walking along roads is treacherous. Still, I'm not donning snowshoes and walking anywhere in snow is a problem as it's quite high yet. Do you wear snowshoes or just tromp through it?

  2. It would be interesting to walk around today. It looks like we got a mild hoar frost overnight.

  3. On Christmas it snowed and after dark my kids and grandkids went out for a walk. I am a "cold" wimp and stayed in. I wish I was more "outdoorsy".

  4. As long as it isn't raining I love to walk in my neighborhood. Love that you can walk by the river so close by. If we walk by the river we have to drive about 10 minutes, but do love walking there too.

  5. Hi La Tea Dah....Your photo was splendid. I even blew it up bigger so I could look at it more intently! Gorgeous.

Unfortunately, I don't walk in the winter. I'm with Bernideen as I'm just not outdoorsy at all!

I do swim a few times a week at a local enclosed pool and LOVE that exercise. But I NEED to walk. Your post inspired me. Susan

  7. Since hubby has been away on business, I haven't walked this weekend. Have spent our wonderful three-day weekend just hanging out -- some cleaning, but mostly blogging and crocheting, cross-stitching. I am glad to hear you are still making dishcloths. They make a wonderful gift with your homemade soap. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Tammy
