"In August, the large masses of berries, which, when in flower, had attracted many wild bees, gradually assumed their bright velvety crimson hue, and by their weight again bent down and broke their tender limbs."

Henry David Thoreau

"Oh, the summer night,
Has a smile of light,
And she sits on a sapphire throne."

Barry Cornwall

"Fairest of the months!
Ripe summer's queen
The hey-day of the year
With robes that gleam with sunny sheen
Sweet August doth appear."

R. Combe Miller

  1. And August is just flying. Our summer is really a blur as we all waiting for the fires to get done and everyone watched the news constantly. Glad this one is over!

  2. We're enjoying the end of August around here...

  3. Sapphire as a summer throne, what a lovely image.
