Tasha Tudor Day

Today Clarice at Storybook Woods and some of her friends are implementing Tasha Tudor Day in commemoration of Miss Tudor's birthday. Be sure to stop by Clarice's blog so you can participate in this special event!

And in
celebration of Tasha Tudor Day, I've decided that Gracious Hospitality will be seeking as many comments as possible regarding ways that Miss Tudor has touched your life: memories, events, books, art, example, or lifestyle. I know that some of my tea and blogging friends had the joy and pleasure of visiting Miss Tudor's home and garden, and were able to visit with her in person during those times. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Comments are always welcome here, but especially today. Please leave a comment if the life of Tasha Tudor has touched you in some way. . .thank you!

I will be checking in again, to share with you at least one of the special things I decided to do myself today in honor of Tasha Tudor.

  7. I've had fun blogging about Tasha Tudor today too. I was first introduced to Tasha when my children were little and I was in search of good, wholesome, beautiful picture storybooks for them. I found Tasha Tudor at the library and from then on, I was smitten and read all of her books and everything I could find about her. Since I live in the country on a ranch, I feel a kindred spirit with her -- love of family, outdoor life, nature, gardens, animals, and homey living.

  8. I learned of Tasha Tudor about 35 years ago when I was searching out living more from the land and herbs. I was fascinated by her life style and her beautiful illustrations. I wanted to live like Tasha. I did start making hand dipped candles and have continued every year since then. I have learned to treasure gardens and love the older crafts.

I had the opportunity to travel to her home when she was approaching her 90th birthday and meet her. It was a small tour group. We had to park by the road and walk into the property to her house, she came out to the gate with her corgi, Megan, and chatted for about a 1/2 hour answering our questions. We were not allowed any pictures, much to my disappointment. Then we walked through her woods to a small gift shop. What a treat and highlight for me.

  10. Tasha Tudor lived a unique simple life, touching many with her lifestyle and artwork. We were priviledged to attend a program where she kicked off her shoes, painted a lovely scene, and spoke about her love of herbs, flowers and life on her mountain with the many goats, chickens, and corgis. Later, on two separate occasions, we had the chance to bring two bus groups to her home. My sister coordinated these excursions, and the exact location of her homestead and the directions were not revealed until the day the bus was to arrive. Her privacy was well guarded by her family and the towns people. As she welcomed us to her home, it was a unique opportunity to listen to her stories as she answered our questions. Eventually, members of our group started sharing gifts with her. She graciously accepted every token presented to her that day. Memories of Tasha Tudor will forever stay in our hearts. She was indeed a very special person.

  12. Interesting comments.

When I knew that I'd be traveling to Vermont this summer, I looked up the information about visiting the gardens and partaking of tea. Sadly, it was cost prohibitive, but I certainly would have been thrilled to see it all.

  14. Oh, I love reading her children's books. I suspect that I'll still be reading them long after my little ones get too big to enjoy them.

I would love to lead a simple peaceful life such as she led.

  16. Tasha inspired me by her unconventional lifestyle of living a creative life in her gardening, cooking, raising her children, and most certainly in her art. Her books grace my bookshelves and her example graces my heart.

  18. On one of our excursions to the library we came across an old VHS on Tasha Tudor. We enjoyed it very much... before that I didn't have a clue who she was, but since then have come to recognize her art and books everywhere.
