About Yixing Pots for Tea

These lovely pots were created from the famous purple clay found only in the Yixing region of China, about 120 miles northwest of Shanghai. Their history goes back to the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644).

Yixing teapots have the unique ability to absorb the tea flavor. The fired clay contains tiny air pockets which provide insulation and enhance both the taste and the aroma of fine teas. They are smaller than typical teapots so as not to waste even a drop o a tea that might cost as much as $100 per pound.
