"The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel-
Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Burning brush,
New books, erasers,
Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive,
Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze."

Such a great description of September...
ReplyDeleteBack to school time always tells me it must be Autumn. Our weather does not tell me that this week, as it is warm.
ReplyDeleteI just love this spotted gray enamelware. I've collected the teacups whenever I find them. They are not common and usually well-worn. But in the last 20 years, I've managed to collect 12 in pretty nice condition. Someday I'll serve tea with all of them together . . . maybe I'll serve the tea in the barn!:)
