It's blueberry season! The neighbor's field is filled with these beautiful purple orbs. They are abundant and ripe. Harvesting a bucket full is a simple task. . .and another. . .then another.
Not only are they easy to harvest, but to "put up" as well. Each container prepared and placed in the freezer promises a winter day of deliciousness!
They speak of smoothies, cobblers, pies, and sauces galore. How many blueberries does one household need? Three trips to the blueberry field has yielded more than enough. But the harvest is so addicting.
The freezer is full enough. I suppose the next blueberry picking excursions will result in handfuls of fresh berries sprinkled on oatmeal for breakfast, or smoothies of blueberries mixed with frozen bananas, or blueberries served over warm biscuit shortcake, and a cobbler or a pie or two. Today I am thankful for blueberries so abundant and close to home.
Lucky you ... I only wish I was your next door neighbor!

Yum! We always enjoy blueberries when we head to Michigan during the summer. Can only get frozen ones here but I enjoy them on cereal and oatmeal, and baked in muffins. Hope you are having a great weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteMy favorites! They're not ready here yet. We're still picking strawberries. Everything is several weeks behind. I think you must make a Blueberry Grunt or a Blueberry Buckle. Those names are terrible, but they sure do taste heavenly and with just a bit of French Vanilla ice cream...definitely heaven.
ReplyDeleteOh, those are beautiful! Mine are all still green here...
ReplyDeleteThis looks like blueberry heaven to me. I enjoy blueberries almost every morning in my bran flakes and yogurt mix. I enjoyed seeing how they grow.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a teenager, I was able to go pick blueberries. It was fun. And they were delicious!

We said only yesterday that we need to start getting blueberries for the freezer. They are perfect in so many ways throughout the winter months.
ReplyDeleteWe just checked our field next door and the berries are still bluish green . ..and we came home without a taste! :) Enjoy those beautiful berries.
ReplyDeleteOh, La Tea Dah! Good for you, picking all those healthy little blueberries. I like them on cereal, that's for sure. Of course, in pie, they are yummified, but I'm swearing off desserts for now. Your blueberry harvest sounds like a great treat! I like small ones best. Susan
ReplyDeleteOh, yum yummmmm! I used to pick these every July with my girlfriend. I miss those days - I need to establish that habit again.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lavender link!
