We Gather Together

We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens his will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing,
Sing praises to his name: He forgets not his own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining his kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, wast at our side, All glory be thine!

We all do extol thee, thou leader triumphant,
And pray that thou still our defender wilt be.
Let thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
Amen

  3. Hi -
    A favorite old hymn of mine. I'd love to sing it more often than just at Thanksgiving. The truth of the words is so true every day of the year. And that picture is just darling! It reminded me of my early school days.

  5. I remember this one well now that I'm reading it, but it had fallen away until now. I hope that I hum it a lot today.

    I have loved this hymn since I first came across it a number of years ago.
    It is not known at all well in Australia and I would love to be part of a large congregation singing it.........except I suspect I would be in tears.
