Fragrance Extraordinaire
It's that time of year! Spring has erupted and the lilacs are in full bloom! I can see the row of lilac trees in the front yard, all abloom in several shades of purple. They were started from shoots taken from my in-laws home more than twenty years ago. They have thrived and ended up growing so tall that I could no longer reach the blossoms. Last year we decided to trim them to a manageable height, and although we were careful to trim at the right stage of their bloom cycle, I will admit to being somewhat fearful that we wouldn't have blossoms this year. But they are more abundant than ever! A walk down lilac row is filled with their fragrance. Extraordinary! Just wonderful. And with the gentle hum of bees as they work their magic among the blossoms. Someone is going to be fortunate to have some lilac honey in their hive! It's the little blessings, like lilacs, sweet fragrance, and beauty that make life happy and complete.

I think I need a row of lilacs instead of just one! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI sniffed some lilacs just yesterday! My dad has a fragrant bush growing at his house, which is rather a rarity here in Georgia. Lilacs have such a dreamy, old-fashioned fragrance, and they're so beautiful too. Ah …
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love lilacs...used to have a whole fence line of them. Gorgeous! An extravagant scent!

Ohhhhh, La Tea Dah, I LOVE lilacs. Your are blooming? Oh, your spring is WAYYY earlier than ours. Well, it IS spring here but it's still chilly and fear of frost at night has not come to an end yet. I did plant my pansies, though. Susan
ReplyDeleteOh how I love lilacs!!! I was so sad to lose our big, very old lilac this year, but the lilac did leave shoots that I am enjoying. I just finished reading the story of Hulga Klager who developed many varieties of lilacs right in WA. The book is by Jane Kilpatrick.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered that my blog reader 'hid' this post and I missed it! I love lilacs. We had an old one on the front corner of our home when we moved here. It was too big for the space and always grew out over the sidewalk to the house. We moved it outside our sliding doors in our bedroom and now we have a show (and wonderful aroma!) every Spring.

I love lilacs too! Our neighbor had a few bushes but now that we moved we don't have any near. I'd love to plant some though as they make a nice natural fence line. Blessings!
