Seasons

Leaves upon the ground;
frost upon the leaves.
This in between time
has come so quickly.
Autumn's glory gives way,
as winter creeps in: inch by inch
A hoary salutation
signaling the year's coming end.
Our warm breath
lingers in the chilly air.
In the shadows
our fingers touch the matte display.
Maple and elm fall prey -
the holly brightens
foretelling time and season's change.
Farewell Autumn,
beholder of bounty's decay!
We will wake one morning
to winter's stark, white beauty
And begin to wait. . .

An Entrance Welcome

Another autumnal scene, this one designed by Alma's cousin. This is the scene that greeted visitors at the front door of the retirement home my aunt lives in. I'm sure it has since been changed for the Christmas holiday's, but this cheerful greeting met visitors for the months of October and November. There's something so cheerful about autumn colors!

Abundance and Thanks

Here is another vignette of Alma's. She created this beautiful island centerpiece in her kitchen using a scarecrow basket, a potted plant, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Isn't it inviting?

Vignette of Autumn

Although the autumn holidays are past and Christmas decor is now consuming most of us, I wanted to post a picture of some of Alma's autumn decor. This bakers rack is in her kitchen, and she keeps it updated with pretty, seasonal vignettes. I think this one is especially pretty because of the vibrant colors and variety in texture and style. Good job, Alma!
